A LITTLE ABOUT MYSELF

About Avery

When I was nine years old, I received my first musical instrument—a banjo—as a Christmas gift from my grandma April. I was beyond excited, and I began taking lessons shortly afterward. For several years, I learned the fundamentals of music on the banjo and eventually branched out into guitar, mandolin, bass and pedal steel guitar (my favorite instrument).

In my early teens, I began performing at the Dari-Delight, a restaurant in my hometown of Brodhead, Kentucky. I played alongside several local musicians, which gave me valuable experience and helped me develop my skills as a performer.

At age 14, I auditioned for the world-famous Renfro Valley and earned a spot as a performer on the Renfro Valley Barn Dance. For the next six years, I performed banjo, guitar, and comedy across the venue’s staff shows in both the Old Barn and New Barn theaters. That period marked the greatest musical growth of my life. During my time at Renfro Valley, I also gained hands-on experience as a front-of-house audio engineer. Around the same time, I started working part-time with the southern gospel group His Heart Quartet.

Eventually, I transitioned into a leadership role as the Executive Director of the Kentucky Music Hall of Fame. This shift took me deeper into the business side of the music industry, giving me the chance to work closely with industry professionals while still staying connected to music. I was fortunate to build meaningful professional relationships and continue performing on a local level.
In addition to several years of performing experience, I also served as a radio DJ on WRVK in Renfro Valley, where I hosted shows such as Hits & Bits, The Afternoon Delight, and occasionally on the WRVK morning show.

However, after years of nonstop work—and with the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic—I experienced burnout and stepped away from music full time to pursue a new path in law enforcement. I currently serve in that field while continuing to make music part-time.
My latest project is a collaborative album with Jaclyn Bullock called Stranger’s Prayer. I also play steel guitar in a group called CrossOver and banjo with Narrow Road. At home, I keep busy in my recording studio, working on tracks and overdubs for various projects.

I offer professional session services for a variety of musical projects, including live performances, overdubs, and full-track or album recordings.

Thanks for visiting my site—I appreciate your interest in my music.
